Hi everyone,
First and foremost--THANK YOU for even showing up on this site. Thank you even more for clicking this link to see my rambling thoughts.
So, what's this whole thing about?
Ever since I started my journey as a music therapist in undergrad, I knew I wanted to own my own practice some day. And while that dream shifted and changed over the years, it's always been in the back in my mind as a "what if?"
Working the Medicaid Waiver system the last five-and-a-half years has really educated me on the inequities faced by the families and clients I served. There's also this idea that we need to separate the disability from the person--but listening to and learning from disabled advocates has shown me how important this part of their identity can be.
I've also found a recent passion for working with perinatal mood disorders--which is a community that is super underserved by Music Therapists. As someone who received PMADs services during and after my pregnancy, I know how crucial support can be. I just applied for a scholarship for PMH-C certification with Postpartum Support International and I'm hoping to start support groups once certified!
And so, Empowered Voices was born! My hope is to lift up my clients and give them the tools to advocate for their best life possible, affirm their experiences and give them a safe space to be exactly who they are.
I'm still working on the Medicaid Waiver with a fantastic company and am currently accepting clients through Private Pay. I hope to do early-childhood groups on the South Side of Indy and am currently working out logistics for those!
A Little About Me
In case you want to know who you're working with:
I'm a born-and-raised Canadian, my family moved to Arizona in 2014. I attended Arizona State University, receiving my Bachelor's of Music in Music Therapy in 2018. I had an amazing time there, getting experience with a wide variety of populations. I moved up to Indianapolis to intern at Riley Hospital, and became board-certified in April of 2019! Since then, I have worked with two waiver providers, serving clients with a variety of diagnoses across the lifespan.
On a personal level, I live on the southwest side of Indy with my husband Jake (who is the Auditorium Director at Ben Davis High School), our daughter Charlie and our husky-mix, Louis. When I'm not working or mom-ing, I love crafting and playing table-top RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons (my business experience comes from an artisan dice-making business I ran before my daughter was born). I am a MASSIVE nerd and will happily talk about Star Wars and video games all day if given the chance. My family is everything to me, and I love to spoil my two nephews and niece (with another on the way!)
THANK YOU for being here, and if given the chance I would love to work with you! Let's make some music together!
